Bread Upma

Bread upma is a well known breakfast in India. There are different methods to make this dish. But all of them are very easy to make. Let’s have a look at the ingredients and the procedure to make this breakfast recipe:

- 4 bread slices (white or wheat)
- 1 medium onion chopped finely
- 4 green chillies chopped
- 2 tablespoon chopped cilantro
- 1½ tablespoon oil
- ½ teaspoon mustard seeds
- ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
- Salt to taste
- ¼ teaspoon asafoetida
- ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
- ½ teaspoon sugar
Method:
- Add bread slices into a grinder and grind them. Keep it aside.
- Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, and cumin seeds. As they crackle, add asafoetida.
- Add chopped chillies and turmeric powder. Mix well.
- Add chopped onion. Saute well and add salt, and sugar. Add 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro. Saute everything for ½ minute.
- Add grinded bread to the pan and mix everything. Cook for a minute by stiring in between.
- Turn off the flame. Keep the lid on the pan and let the upma cook on a steam for a ½ -1 minute.
- Garnish with chopped cilantro. Serve hot.
