Bread Upma

Bread upma is a well known breakfast in India. There are different methods to make this dish. But all of them are very easy to make. Let’s have a look at the ingredients and the procedure to make this breakfast recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 4 bread slices (white or wheat)
  • 1 medium onion chopped finely
  • 4 green chillies chopped
  • 2 tablespoon chopped cilantro
  • 1½ tablespoon oil
  • ½ teaspoon mustard seeds
  • ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon asafoetida
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • ½ teaspoon sugar

  1. Add bread slices into a grinder and grind them. Keep it aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, and cumin seeds. As they crackle, add asafoetida.
  3. Add chopped chillies and turmeric powder. Mix well.
  4. Add chopped onion. Saute well and add salt, and sugar. Add 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro. Saute everything for ½ minute.
  5. Add grinded bread to the pan and mix everything. Cook for a minute by stiring in between.
  6. Turn off the flame. Keep the lid on the pan and let the upma cook on a steam for a ½ -1 minute.
  7. Garnish with chopped cilantro. Serve hot.
