Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds. Let them crackle. Add asafoetida, turmeric powder, and curry leaves.
Add green peas and cashew pieces and saute for a while. Add rinsed rice and mix everything.
Meanwhile, add water to another pan and start heating.
Add masale bhat powder, sugar,and salt to the rice. Add beaten yogurt and stir everything together.
Add hot/boiling water to the rice. Put the lid on a pan and let the rice cook properly. Check in between to make sure the rice is not sticking to the pan.
When the rice is cooked switch off the flame. Add ghee/butter to the rice and put the lid on.
