Ganesh Chaturthi Festival

Ganesh Chaturthi, an auspicious festival plays an important role in Hindu culture. It is a birthday celebration of Lord Ganesha, an elephant headed God. The celebration is upto ten days or always depends on the tradition of a family. It used to be personal worship in households but during India’s pre-independence time, a freedom fighter, Lokmanya Tilak encouraged this festival to be a public celebration. The main objective was to make people gather together, worship and unite.

This festival is celebrated throughout India. However, the state of Maharashtra celebrates it in a grand manner. The idol is made with natural clay and is worshiped daily during the 10 days. Beautiful flowers and garlands are offered to Lord Ganesha. Red flower is offered since it is assumed to be favourite colour of this Hindu deity.
